
With just over 30 years in the freight industry, Pierre Vander Steckel has worked with three freight airlines, three charter brokers and ACMI.
How did you get into the air freight field?
Passionate about aviation due to living an expatriate life, my father worked for a UN agency, and I always heard that the UN ran aircraft missions in Africa. I loved the idea and wanted to play a part in it and I did!
What quote resonates most with you?
Nothing is permanent. Don’t stress yourself too much – because no matter how bad the situation is, it will change.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you want something, never stop trying. If that doesn’t work, take it from a different angle, and if that fails, try again later. Never stop trying.
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
I’ve climbed the Tacul du Mont Blanc at 4,248 meters above sea level (although I’m not sure I’ll do it again).
If you could have dinner with three people, living or dead, who would they be?
Putin, Zelensky, and Trump.
What is something we don’t know about you from your CV?
Passionate about people.
What is a hobby that you have always wanted to try but have never been able to?

Professional alpine climber.
If you had not pursued a career in air freight, what other field would you have liked to get into?
Aviation psychology.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Gather all world leaders who are in conflict/war into a room from which no one is allowed to leave until peace agreements are signed.
What is your proudest moment and biggest regret?
I am proud to have a wonderful family and wish I could spend more time with my loved ones.
Looking back on your career, what would your message be to someone considering a career in logistics?
Never stop trying and believe in yourself.
How do you motivate your team?
I treat everyone on my team with respect, find out what makes them tick, and support them throughout their career journey.
