Despite massive disruptions to global supply chains, from storms to strikes, there is one constant that helps logistics companies thrive: their team. Talented and committed teams are located in the heart of Europe, and the Aviation and Sea Department is a great example of this philosophy.
Europe Air & Sea is a division dedicated to the ambitious independent operator Europe Global Group. 12 months ago, Europa Air&Sea appointed its first UK & Ireland General Manager, Miles O’Donnell, who is also celebrating 10 years with the Europa team. Miles’ appointment was an important step for the company, as it was expanding its operations in the UK and Ireland, as well as in the UAE, China and India, and had more than 100 air and sea freight experts globally.
In a tough market – with fluctuations such as the ongoing chaos in the Red Sea and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East causing problematic market conditions, Miles and the Europe Air & Sea team continue to move forward and deliver for clients. This is evident as Europa Air & Sea has seen a 16.1 percent increase in shipment numbers since the beginning of the year compared to 2023.
Miles attributes this success and growth to the dedication of the UK team that works together effectively and is focused on providing the best customer service, whatever the task.
Evidence of her team’s approach this year included, among other things, managing shipments of time-critical projects. One such challenge meant that Europe had to charter the world’s largest commercial aircraft as well as manage complex customs clearance processes.
Having previously faced delays of up to three weeks due to these complications, the client asked Europe to manage the seamless movement between the client and the end user.
Another key benefit for Europe Air & Sea customers and the team this year is the introduction of LeoWeb for ocean freight, which provides visibility into shipments and is part of Europe’s multi-million pound in-house Leonardo system.
The advanced tracking platform monitors goods in real-time, access detailed shipment information, and provides instant notifications. LeoWeb is designed to provide customers with complete transparency and peace of mind and is essential for the peak season where shipment tracking is vital to business success.
Effective communication is especially essential when negative events occur, such as the recent strike in the US which is causing repercussions across the global shipping supply chain, as well as severe weather around South Africa and China. More than 200 containers have reportedly been lost at sea in recent months due to turbulent weather across South Africa.
Miles O’Donnell, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, comments: “Crucially, 83 percent of customers say they expect regular updates on the status of goods, which is why LeoWeb works so well. The software provides real-time tracking of all shipments, regular updates and full visibility.
Having new tracking software and functionality has been great this year, and what our customers appreciate is that this technology has been enhanced by having a staff member at the end of the phone if they need to reach out. We understand how important accurate tracking is, especially during key seasons.
“Our team works well together across all customer service, sales and operations functions. It is the power trio that makes this a successful combination. I am very proud of everyone here in Europe.
Angus Hind, Director, Europe Air & Sea, added: “Miles is responsible for both operations and sales for the division in the UK and has risen to the challenge. In a challenging global and UK economy, businesses need high quality services at a more cost-effective price.” In terms of cost, air and sea freight are no exception but people are also an important part of this service, and their effectiveness from working closely together as a team has paid off this year, under Mile’s management.
Europe handles shipments to and from overseas markets by air or sea through a well-established transportation and forwarder network that keeps shipments moving and supply chains flowing. From furniture and packaging to aviation and automotive, the Europe team can deliver.
