As the industry grapples with increasing environmental responsibilities, the International Air Cargo Association put sustainability at the heart of its agenda at the Air Cargo Forum, unveiling updates to its sustainability portfolio, including the Sustainability Survey, which brings together important data from across the industry. .
“The survey allows us to measure progress on key sustainability metrics and understand what is driving change for different organizations,” explained Stephen Polmans, President of TIACA. “
“A few years ago, companies pursued sustainability because their business partners expected it. Today, it is a mandate from employees, regulators, financial institutions and local communities.
Glenn Hughes, Director General of TIACA, went on to encourage wider participation in the survey to enhance its impact: “We are targeting 400 participants this year. The more data we collect, the more meaningful the insights will become.”
Along with understanding industry needs, TIACA highlighted the growing Blue Sky program, an independent assessment designed to help organizations measure and enhance their sustainability efforts.
The programme, tailored to each participant, assesses not only environmental practices, but also social and management aspects.
“It’s not about success or failure. It’s about helping companies understand where they are on their sustainability journey and how they can improve,” Hughes explained.
To highlight the collaboration, Polmans shared an example of the Blue Sky Community Initiative, which debuted at Brussels Airport: “By bringing many organizations together, we can identify common challenges and create collective solutions.”
