This new facility will increase Changi Airport’s logistics warehouse capacity, ensuring that Singapore’s Changi Air Cargo Hub can meet growing demand for air cargo services, ahead of the completion of the Changi East Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in the mid-2030s. CAG’s investment in Changi Nexus One demonstrates its commitment to providing world-class facilities to air logistics players, strengthening Changi’s role as a leading regional air cargo transportation hub. The new tenants at Changi Nexus One are expected to bring new capabilities in handling air logistics, as well as adopt automation and smart technology into their operations, enhancing Changi Airport’s air cargo management capabilities.
The main partner occupying space in this facility is Expeditors, the seventh largest air cargo company in the world[1]which is looking to expand its air logistics activities in Singapore.
“The new facility at Changi Air Cargo Center will enhance our overall efficiency and reliability with fewer touchpoints, allowing Expeditors to further enhance our specialist cargo handling capabilities in the pharmaceutical and aviation industries,” said Mr. Barthol Hufnagels, Regional Vice President – Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. , semiconductor and other industries, and better serve the transit needs of our global customers. We are excited to expand our cooperation with Changi Airport Group to bring more value to our customers.
In line with Changi Airport’s commitment to sustainability, Changi Nexus One is a leader in many areas. It is the first building within CAC, and the first of its kind in Changi, to be awarded Green Mark Platinum and Green Mark Platinum Positive Energy Building (PEB) certifications by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
Green Mark Platinum PEB certification is issued to buildings with the highest environmental performance. To achieve this, Changi Nexus One has proven to be an ultra-low energy BCA building achieving energy savings of over 60% and generating more renewable energy than it consumes. Besides the ongoing installation of the solar photovoltaic (PV) system throughout the airport including the freight forwarder buildings, solar PV panels will also be installed at Changi Nexus One by the first quarter of 2025 to provide renewable energy on-site. By 2028, the Changi Nexus One project will generate enough on-site solar energy to offset the building’s total energy consumption by more than 140%. This surplus renewable energy will be directed to other airport facilities to support Changi Airport’s other operations.
In addition, this project is the first of its kind in the private sector in Singapore to adopt a collaborative contracting method. This new contracting method recommended by the BCA is an innovative approach that promotes greater collaboration between project stakeholders, leading to improved efficiency. It focuses on risk management, which involves all parties assessing and evaluating potential threats to the project in advance, resulting in work being completed ahead of schedule, risk sharing and cost savings.
“The opening of Changi Nexus One marks a significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen Changi Airport’s position as a global air cargo hub. By enhancing our capabilities and capabilities in cargo handling, we aim to remain at the forefront of the industry,” said Mr. Lim Cheng Kiat, CAG Executive Vice President for Airport and Cargo Development. Air freight, which puts Changi in a good position to capture growth from major freight players, as well as growth in the region and by working closely with our tenants, we aim to bring in new freight opportunities And expansion into new markets.
“As we strive to maintain Changi’s continued success as a thriving air cargo hub, we continually challenge ourselves to execute our business and development operations in accordance with our sustainability goals.”
