DNATA has continued to take initiatives to reduce its environmental imprint around the world. In the UK, the heavy cargo fleet in DNATA (HGV) of 70 trucks at LHR Airport (LHR) has turned into running on HVO vegetable oil, which is an alternative free of excavation for ordinary diesel.
This strategic step of carbon emissions for the Dnata’s HGV fleet will reduce by 77 %, equivalent to carbon dioxide (CO2E) Emissions with more than 2,400 tons annually. This is similar to greenhouse gas emissions from more than 530 gasoline passenger vehicles for 12 months.
The initiative is part of the continuous efforts of the DNATA group to reduce carbon fingerprint by 50 % by 2030, in line with its eight -year strategy.
“We are committed to implementing significant initiatives to increase environmental efficiency. Biological fuel entry, like HVO, is in our UK operations another important step on our ongoing journey to reduce our carbon fingerprint.
“We will continue to invest in infrastructure and equipment to contribute to the goals of global sustainability in DNATA.”
Continuing investment in renewable energy
The latest DNATA initiative tracks significant investment in the advanced infrastructure in the United Kingdom. The new and advanced goods centers in Manchester (DNATA North City) and London include the latest carbon reduction initiatives in design and operation, including the use of solar photovoltaic panels and air heat pumps and charging electric vehicles.
Reducing emissions with alternative fuel options
Besides the United Kingdom, DNata is currently using biofuels in Australia, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, while constantly exploring opportunities to present them in other countries through its network. In the United Arab Emirates, it recently transferred its entire non-electric fleet to the vital diesel fuel in Dubai, Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum-Dubai World Central (DWC).
In the fiscal year 2023-24, DNATA reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 2200 tons using more than 1.3 million liters of biofuels worldwide.
Convert GSE fleet
The DNATA fleet strategy is committed to gradual disposal of diesel engines and a transformation to hybrid, electrical or hydrogen wherever the necessary infrastructure airports provide. As a result of its investments in recent years, 65 % of the DNata fleet has become electric in the Netherlands, 44 % in Italy, 40 % in the United Kingdom, and 39 % in Switzerland.
Great improvement through the main environmental performance standards in the world
DNATA recently reported significant improvements through the main environmental performance of the fiscal year 2023-24. As a result of its consistent approach and initiatives, the company reduced the carbon intensity for its operations by more than 8 %, 22 % and 26 % through its operations at airport, travel and catering, respectively. All data has been validated by Verifavia, which is the approved and review environment verification body.
