Nordisk Aviation (Nordisk), a pioneering provider of unit loading devices (“ULDS”), has signed an agreement with the UAE to purchase the Akefish resistance containers for advanced fire and goods.
The agreement will provide the UAE with up to 10,000 modern Ake containers in Nordisk, designed to relieve the risks associated with the fires of the lithium ion battery during the transport.
Nordisk’s Ake contains innovative design, providing lighter in the market while providing unparalleled fire protection against Lithium Eun battery fires. The design emphasizes the decrease in carbon fingerprint and sustainability with the recycling of most components by 100 %.
To verify the functioning of containers against the risks of the Lithium Ion battery fire, Nordisk cooperated with the UAE for strict fire tests. While the SAE As8992 Air Standard determines the requirements of the A.C. paper, Nordisk and the Emirates created a more demanding test scenario.
The tests exceeded industry requirements, and it included a hard fire simulation that includes the Ake container with 1000 battery cells 18650-lion distributed over 60 pieces of luggage and other flammable objects such as clothes, cleaning tools and alcohol bottles. Nordisk Ake allows fungi gases to escape with oxygen flowing, and contains fire throughout the test period for six hours.
“Safety and innovation is at the heart of our mission,” said Chris Kumar, General Manager of Nordisk Aviation. “This partnership with the UAE clarifies our commitment to providing leading solutions in the industry that meets the advanced safety challenges in the aviation sector. By combining advanced technology and sustainability, we set new standards for fire -resistant goods and help solve problems faced by our strategic partners.”
Li-ion batteries, whether announced or unannounced, are a major risk of charging and luggage shipments. The wide test of Nordisk Aviation helped determine the critical factors that affect the intensity of the fire, ensuring that the containers are equipped to deal with such accidents effectively.
The UAE agreement provides the technology of advanced fire protection and establishing a basis for cooperation and innovation in aviation safety.
Emirates and Nordisk appeared to relieve the risk of Lithium -ion battery fires first appeared in the week of air cargo.
