GEODIS announced that SBTi has agreed to a near-term science-based emissions reduction target.
SBTi’s approval recognizes GEODIS’s commitment to tackling climate change and confirms that the Group’s strategy is consistent with the 2015 Paris Agreement, which seeks to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C by the end of this century.
- In Scopes 1 and 2, GEODIS has committed, starting from base year 2022, to:
- Absolute reduction of 42 percent of greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy consumption by 2030.
- In Band 3, GEODIS has 4 near-term targets within the same time frame (2022-2030):
-
- Absolute reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from fuel and energy-related activities not included in Scopes 1 and 2 by 25 percent.
- Target 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per square kilometer from container shipping, road and subcontracted rail operations, including transportation and distribution.
- Additional absolute reduction of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from transmission and distribution by 25 percent (air transport).
- And finally, the absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 42% from the use of the products sold.
These targets form the framework of the Group’s overall strategy to drive decarbonisation across all business areas and regions. The Group’s expertise, strategic partnerships, innovation and commitment to continuous improvement are key enablers of this strategy, which is focused on achieving tangible progress in reducing emissions.
“By receiving this endorsement from SBTi, we strengthen our resolve to contribute meaningfully to the fight against climate changesaid Marie-Christine Lombard, CEO of GEODIS. “Sustainability is at the heart of our long-term strategy, and we believe that our social and environmental commitment will benefit not only our operations, but also the customers, partners and communities we serve.“.
The company has drawn clear decarbonisation paths for each line of business, with a particular focus on transitioning its own fleet to alternative energy sources and selecting partners working in the same direction. This means accelerating the pace of electric and biofuel technology and building the infrastructure needed to support these changes.
“In addition to transforming our own fleet, we are committed to reducing emissions across all forms of transport in our operations,” said Virginie Delcroix, Executive Vice President of Sustainability at GEODIS. “By utilizing the best combination of transportation modes, increasing the use of sustainable marine and air fuels, and by improving the efficiency of all transportation resources, we support our customers in achieving their climate goals. We are proud to have SBTi endorse our goals. This important achievement reflects our leadership and commitment in this critical transition .
GEODIS’ climate action extends beyond fleet decarbonization. It includes an ambitious plan to reduce carbon emissions at the company’s sites by 2030, targeting improving energy efficiency by 40% and ensuring that at least 90% of the energy used comes from low-carbon sources. All new site projects include strict environmental standards.
To ensure the long-term success of these initiatives, GEODIS leverages digital tools to improve routing, loading and energy efficiency, and constantly drives awareness campaigns to empower its teams with climate knowledge. The company’s leadership team is directly involved in climate-related standards already built into variable compensation for senior executives. Environmental factors are also taken into account in key decision-making processes, such as investments and acquisitions.
Through these measures, the Group demonstrates its commitment to tackling climate change and contributing to international efforts to reduce global emissions.
