
Teams from 10 international airlines participated in the 14th Hactl International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition, which was held at Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1 in Hong Kong.
As in previous years, the forklift driving component of the event tested competitors’ ability to maneuver forklift trucks accurately and safely along complex tracks typical of a station environment. Meanwhile, the platform building competition gave contestants one hour to place as much cargo as possible on the pallets, while adhering to the specific features of the pallets, complying with International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards and other aviation industry best practices.
About 300 spectators watched as participants from Air Canada, Finnair, Cargolux, China Southern Airlines, Emirates SkyCargo, IAG Cargo, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways Cargo, SF Airways, Qatar Airways and HAKTL Host competed. Honor awards.
China Southern Airlines was crowned the overall champion, while Japan Airlines won the Forklift Competition and Forklift Driving Safety Award, and China Southern Airlines took first place in the Platform Building Competition.
The event witnessed the presence of four guests of honor: Mr. Liu Chunsan, Undersecretary for Transport and Logistics; Ms Sisi Chan, Executive Director, Commercial, Hong Kong Airports Authority; Mr. Wan Zhi Ping, Assistant Commissioner for Labor Affairs (Occupational Safety), Ministry of Labour; and Ms. Bonnie Yau, Executive Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Council.
