Noida International Airport (NIA) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its verification flight, marking a major step towards its expected opening in 2025. The verification flight, conducted by IndiGo as the launch operator, tested and verified the airport’s approach procedures. navigational aids and air traffic control systems, demonstrating NIA’s commitment to the stringent safety and operational standards required for commercial operations.
The validation flight is a vital component of the airport licensing process. The Airbus A-320 flight tested the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach procedures, which are critical to ensuring safe and efficient aircraft operations. RNP procedures allow aircraft to fly precisely defined flight paths, enhancing the safety and reliability of navigation.
This achievement comes after months of rigorous preparation, including the successful calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems at the NIA in October. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), supervised these trials. Simulation trials of RNP procedures have enhanced the airport’s readiness, ensuring that NIA meets the highest safety standards.
Speaking about this achievement, Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Noida International Airport, noted, “The successful completion of the verification flights at Noida International Airport is a proud moment for our entire team. This achievement reflects the dedication and meticulous planning to ensure the airport is ready for commercial operations. We are preparing for the opening of the airport.” We look forward to welcoming travelers at the airport.”
With the verification flight successfully completed, the next stage includes finalizing the required documentation for airport certification. These documents will be submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, marking the final step before commercial operations begin. The airport’s adherence to safety protocols during this process will be crucial to obtaining the necessary approvals.
As Schnelman aptly summarized, “This achievement is just the beginning. We are committed to creating an airport that sets new standards for operational excellence and passenger experience in India.”
