The Russian Foreign Ministry urged President Donald Trump to lift the ban on Russian aircraft entering American airspace and allowing direct flights between the two countries.
Russian airlines were banned from using the American airspace after Ukraine on a large scale in 2022, when the then President Joe Biden imposed sanctions on Russia in line with other NATO members.
After a meeting between Russian diplomats and US officials, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said: “The necessity of achieving concrete results to enhance the conditions that lead to improving bilateral relations, for the benefit of both countries.”
“In particular, the American side was encouraged to consider restoring the direct air service between the two countries. The discussions continued in a fundamental and business similar way, as the two parties agreed to continue the dialogue through this channel.”
American officials have not referred to the demand for their coverage of the meeting, and the Trump administration has not yet commented on whether they were thinking about the restrictions of the Biden era.
Beyond Russia called on the Trump administration to reopen the American airspace for the first time in the week of air cargo.
