Embraer has signed a contract with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to supply a new module for the Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS II). This will be FAB’s second device, which can be quickly installed on any KC-390 multirole aircraft in the FAB fleet. With MAFFS II, the KC-390 provides a deployment capacity of approximately 12,000 liters of water in 7 seconds per flight.
“The MAFFS II system has demonstrated a high ability to respond in emergency situations that occurred in many areas of Brazil. In total, the KC-390 aircraft equipped with the fire control system dropped more than one million liters of water this year. “MAFFS II has proven to be highly capable of responding in emergency situations that occurred in many areas of Brazil. In total, the KC-390 aircraft equipped with the fire control system dropped more than one million liters of water this year. Air Force: “Our decision to expand this capability is due to the high efficiency of MAFFS II, demonstrated in more than 100 flights, and the demand we have for tools like this.”
“The KC-390 has proven its versatility in critical missions for the country, such as fighting fires in the Pantanal, the Amazon and São Paulo during 2024. With the acquisition of the new MAFFS II unit, the FAF will double its operational performance in these operations,” said Bosco da Costa. Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security: “We are very pleased with the progress that Embraer’s multi-mission platform has made in meeting the nation’s needs.”
Since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, and the Hungarian Air Force in 2024, the aircraft has demonstrated an operational readiness of 93% and mission completion rates in excess of 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in its class. In addition to Brazil, Portugal and Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic and South Korea received the C-390. Recently, Sweden also confirmed the selection of the C-390 Millennium, and Slovakia stated that the C-390 was indicated as the best option for modernizing its transport aircraft fleet.
