Plans to reopen the Doncaster Sheffield airport were granted a batch after the UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that the government would work to return the center to a “prosperous regional airport”
Donkster Sheffield airport sat since 2022 after Flyby closed its facility at the airport in 2019, and Wiz Air ended flights from the airport in 2022 due to fears that operators “were unable to ensure the conditions of his trade agreement.” Tui Airways, the only remaining partner from the airport, runs its final flight on November 4, 2020.
After closing the airport, the Doncaster Council applied for a judicial review but was rejected, which prompted the mayor of Doncaster to announce that the council would seek to take over the site and secure a 125 -year lease contract.
Earlier this month, the mayor of Doncaster Ross Jones announced that Flydoncaster has lined up to take over operations, announcing that “reopening our airports is still my first priority.
“I want to assure the council and the Donkster people that we have an international airport operator, ready and we are waiting for the wings to work with us,” Jones said.
Yesterday, the government counseling unit (SAU) published its report on the proposed support to FlydonCaster.
“Flydoncaster is a fully owned company for this council, which was established to manage the airport and partnership with our international airport operator. Its main role is to fill the airport reopening for passenger flights in the spring of 2026. More details related to this will be included in reports to go through the decision -making process in the council in the coming weeks.
“This is scheduled to be the largest individual investment in Doncaster for more than one generation, and therefore the large level of due care and strict and logical approach to accomplishing this huge challenge of providing and reopening our airport.
“This is an investment that will increase trade, export and growth for Doncaster and South Yorkshire through the global communication that places Doncaster on the map, on the regional, national and international levels.”
The post -UK government pledged to restore Doncaster Sheffield as a “prosperous” regional center that appeared in the week of air cargo.
