UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has supported plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport, as she looks forward to promoting trade, tourism and economic growth.
In a speech on Wednesday morning, Reeves announced that a third runway was “strongly required” and could create 100,000 jobs, as it flirted with how continuous delays had doubts about the United Kingdom’s seriousness towards improving its economic horizons.
“The last full length runway in Britain was built in the 1940s. Reeves explained:” Do not progress in 80 years. “Why is this very harmful? This is because Heathrow is located at the heart of the UK’s openness as a country. It connects us with emerging markets around the world, and opens new growth opportunities.
“About three quarters of all long distance trips in the UK go from Heathrow. More than 60 percent of the UK air freight comes through Heathrow, and about 15 million Hitro commercial travelers used in 2023 but for decades, his growth was restricted Successive studies have shown that this is really important to our economy.
“According to the latest study from Frontier Economics, a third runway can increase the gross domestic product by 0.43 percent by 2050. Scottish and Scottish – two of the largest British exports of Heathrow
“Since the only Hub Airport, Heathrow, is in a unique position, and we cannot fill the decision anymore. I have always been clear that a third listed in Heathrow would open more growth, enhance investment, increase exports, and make the United Kingdom more open and more In connection. Now the issue is stronger than ever, because our reforms of the economy, such as speeding up the planning system and our plans to update the airspace in the United Kingdom, means that the delivery of this project has now been prepared for success.
In the wake of the advisor’s statement, the government called on proposals on the expansion that will be submitted by summer, before moving to a full evaluation through the airport’s national policy statement.
Reeves was clear that during development, value guarantee for money would be a major priority, as the cost of the expansion project in Heathrow is estimated at about 14 billion pounds. The government’s proposal is that any costs related to special financing will be funded, as the third runway is also delivered in line with legal and climatic goals.
In response to the announcement, David Wales Obi, CEO of Logistics UK, said that “”The advertisement represents an intention that our member companies will welcome, “before adding that” the pudding guide will be at the speed in which planning decisions and project delivery are taken.
“If important projects at the national level become like the third runway in Heathrow, a reality, we can connect the goods more efficiently throughout the country, and benefit from everyone at the country level.
“Heathrow is the largest port in the United Kingdom, and an important center that provides access to the rest of the United Kingdom and the world for British business – the opening of a third runway will expand the industry range to new global markets for both imports and export.
Steve Parker, Director General of the British International Shipping Society (BIFA) said: Speaking on behalf of its members: “The government’s support for a third runway in Heathrow arouses the interest of BIFA members who provide international logistical services for shipments that move on the air, and although our members will remain wondering about when it will strike any Asia Earth, they are ready to work with them the airport authority to simplify services and improve them .
“While we are waiting for a third runway, BIFA will focus on developing goods at the airport. On behalf of our members, BIFA is already closely with the airport to support its ambitious plans to provide a basic change in the way the goods work at the airport. The latest plans and program improvements were revealed last October. These plans may mean a large redevelopment for the property of the goods that will start during the next two or three years, as the airport is looking to absorb the increasing demand, update some of the goods processing facilities in the first line, and improve the flow of goods and efficiency.
The International Airlines Group, the parent company of BRISHISH AIRWAIS, a flag carrier in the United Kingdom, who has its main position at Heathrow Airport, also celebrated the decision.
“We welcome the government’s support to expand the airport and recognize the main role it plays in leading growth, and we agree with the advisor that expansion must be affordable and sustainable. We also need to change the current organizational model that allowed Heathrow to become the most expensive airport in the world and look forward to working with Government, CAA and Heathrow to reform this for consumers.
